"Lewis
offers here a collection of personal short tales and anecdotes of various
experiences he has had throughout the west over the last half-century.
Most are in the southwest, some are in the far
north.
These picturesque little scenarios are
oftentimes no more than an observation of some insignificant event in passing,
or might be a detailed discussion of an issue he feels compelled to address.
"There is no doubt that the writer has
seen some interesting sights in his lifetime, but some seem no more noteworthy
than anything others have seen or done. Lewis has, however, witnessed or
partaken in some episodes that nobody will ever be able to see or do again.
Those days, traditions, and attitudes have died out. Also, much of what he has
seen simply no longer physically exists.
"From
being exposed to old Indian skeletons to the delivery of one of his own children
in a log cabin, Lewis provides interesting insight into the perceived adventures
of a man always in pursuit of the dreams and ideals that continually added to
his love for the west."
