"The biting western novel The Pintos and the poignant short story of Slow Willie are a rousing pair of frontier tales from an emerging new author." (Keynote from publisher's website).

"Sam Miller is an aging bounty hunter after the gang known as the Pintos.  He tracks them to Charleston, Arizona, but finds more than just the killers; there is also the evil that nurtured them. Miller is tough, impatient, and anti-social, but now he also finds a woman with as much sand as he has, and she's caught between him and the Pintos. Set during an actual little-known historical event, this crisp, violent story races to a dramatic and unique ending.
"And life is rough in Deadwood, Dakota Territory for Willie Appleton, a young man of slow wit who becomes embroiled in gold-seeking ventures he can't understand. Life to him is simple and beautiful, but the violence around him is a challenge. A touching and poignant tale of lives forever changed by the innocence of the young man known as Slow Willie."
(Synopsis from book cover)

The short novel The Pintos, by its very nature, is not as profound as Lewis's fascinating full-length novel When Good Men Ride, but his style is definitely recognized here in another good people-story wrapped up in a western. The short story Slow Willie is told with this author's typical insight and depth of feeling for his characters in a tale that is touching in theme and content, presented with an innovative method of story-telling.

WHAT THE READERS ARE SAYING ABOUT
TWO FROM THE WEST (Released December, 2003)

"The Pintos was excellent, fast moving, and had a great ending, but Slow Willie touched me deeply. It was a tragically beautiful story."  (Malawna M.; Toquerville, Utah)

"The Pintos was really good with an interesting assortment of characters and a truly surprising and dramatic ending. The shorter Slow Willie was different and sad and made me cry. The way it's told is unique."
(Lynda Z.; Avondale,  Arizona)

"One word for each of the stories: 'magnificent' and 'fantastic.' "
(Dave R.; Chandler, Arizona)

"The first one was great, but Slow Willie really got to me!"
(reader; New Mexico)

"The Pintos was really enjoyable and the ending is perfect. Slow Willie was truly different and it was emotional in the telling of it." (Debbie G.; Chandler, Arizona)

"This author always gives us something different. What a great ending to The Pintos. Both stories were really great."
("Red"; Yuma, Arizona)

"The Pintos was very good, and Slow Willie had an intriguing style of presentation for a touching story all too short; I wanted more."
(W.M.; Avondale, Arizona)

"This is very effective writing in both stories. With Slow Willie being short makes it more dramatic. What a beautiful story."
(Alicia; Tucson, Arizona)

"I really liked The Pintos. It was real, it was different, and had a great ending. Slow Willie was beautiful and touching, the most poignant story I've ever read. I was crying as I finished it."
(reader; Wickenburg, Arizona)

"What a great book ... truly different ... Slow Willie  was one of the most original pieces of writing I've ever read."
(David M.; Litchfield Park, Arizona)

"I read this book in one sitting ... couldn't stop ... The Pintos was my favorite of the two stories. The historical event in it was something I did not know about and I found that interesting." (Rich; Glendale, Arizona)

"How does this author come up with such stories? Oh, what evil in The Pintos! and a great ending ... both stories were great." (M.G.; Pleasant Valley, New York)

"I loved it ... Slow Willie was sad and wonderful, and the character was faintly reminiscent of Lenny in that old book Of Mice and Men, but dramatically different. I loved it." (Toni T.; Phoenix, Arizona)

"It made me feel these people ... The Pintos was well told and I loved the harshness of the hero. Slow Willie is beautifully written ... and sad." (S.F.; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma)

"This book caused me to lose some sleep, because I had to finish it in one sitting just to see what happened next. And Slow Willie?? Wow! What a great story ... I loved every word of it." (Edward M.; Lake Havasu City, Arizona)

"Very enjoyable, especially Slow Willie. I wanted it to last longer. That, to me, is a good indicator of a good book. Even though the characters are fictional, I start to think of them as real heroes and real bad guys in real times and places. I love the Author's Notes at the end of each story. Pointing out real and historic data after the story makes me want to go back and re-read it to see what I missed. I'm impressed with the author's ability to teach a little while entertaining at the same time."  (Virginia D.; Hyde Park, New York)

"A real fast ride ... I'm not sure which story I enjoyed more ... written in a style that is a fast easy read that leaves me wanting more ... character development is well thought out and the characters are easy to identify with ... Lewis is a great story teller ... I am a HUGE fan."  (Jim P.; Avondale, Arizona)

"This is a great book!" (Steve; Queen Creek, Arizona).

"I just read Two From the West and I couldn't put this book down, and read it in one night! I would stack Chuck Lewis up against any of the great western authors, and I'd recommend this book to all!" (Mike M.; Santee, California)

"(The Pintos) is a rip roarin' thriller from the starting gate. Never a dull moment, and quite a surprise towards the end! And in a historical note, too! ... (Slow Willy) proves in the end that all men, rich, poor, ambitious, slow witted, larcenous, murderous, slothful and deceitful all become equal in the end. ... A great pair, and I literally couldn't put it down. Thanks, Chuck, for a great read."  (Dan B.; Edna, Kansas)
