"This
informal collection of photographs and accompanying text explores a sampling of
the misleading errors constantly made by writers, editors and publishers of
firearms and western Americana literature. Some of these careless mistakes
appear in books and magazines that are often used by other writers for
historical reference, and the errors are then perpetuated in further
publications. This is a disservice to everyone. It's embarrassing to the
original author of such information (providing the authors themselves presented
correct data), and can result in his or her credibility being compromised and
perhaps tainting any further work from them. These mistakes are often the fault
of publishers' editors and proofreaders, who themselves might be ignorant of the
subject, but it all gets into print anyway. Sometimes, however, these errors are
from the authors themselves.
"Chuck Lewis offers here a series of representative
examples of such publication errors and presents them only to demonstrate that
such a practice is not uncommon. Therefore the reader is alerted to consider the
validity of all sources of information and to seek confirmation of uncertain
data." (Synopsis from CD insert).
